Bunion Pain and Treatment: What You Need to Know
What Is a Bunion?
A bunion—medically known as hallux valgus—is more than just a bump on the side of your foot. It’s a structural change in the joint at the base of the big toe, causing the toe to lean toward the second toe instead of pointing straight ahead.
Over time, this misalignment can worsen, becoming more prominent and painful. Bunions are progressive deformities, which means they tend to get worse without treatment. In many cases, the smaller toes are also affected, becoming misaligned to make room for the shifting big toe.
