Flat Feet: Causes, Symptoms & Expert Treatment at Dynamic Podiatry
What Are Flat Feet?
Flat feet occur when the arches of the feet do not develop properly or collapse over time, causing the entire sole to come into contact with the ground. While some people with flat feet experience no symptoms, others may develop pain or functional problems.
Common Causes of Flat Feet
- Genetics: Flat feet can be hereditary, passed down through families.
- Weak arches: Sometimes the arches never develop fully during childhood.
- Injury or trauma: Damage to tendons or ligaments can cause arches to collapse.
- Aging: Natural wear and tear may cause the arches to flatten over time.
- Obesity: Excess weight can put pressure on the arches.
- Medical conditions: Conditions such as arthritis or diabetes may contribute to flat feet.
Symptoms of Flat Feet
- Pain or aching in the feet, especially along the arch or heel
- Swelling on the inside of the ankle
